Things That I Hate

“You don’t have a life.”

Last time I checked, I am a living, breathing human. Just because I don’t go to many exciting places doesn’t mean that I’m dead. If you knew what I had to deal with, you would be ashamed of yourself. I am a person with feelings. You’re the one with no heart.

  1. “Life” in this context refers to a social life, not what you are interpreting it as.

  2. “Life”, Jonathan, is up to the individual’s interpretation, so viewing life as a social interaction is completely acceptable.

  3. No, words in certain contexts have objective definitions, and it’s clear that the statement “you don’t have a life” is referring specifically to a social life—having friends, going out and doing things—while the complaint in the essay is defining life as being a living, breathing, conscious creature.
