Things That I Hate

My Mum’s Crazy Views

Currently, I’m being admonished because of the way I stand. I have a habit of distributing most of my weight to one foot, so my other leg remains slightly bent. According to my mum, it’s going to ruin my posture, my spine is somehow going to curve permanently and subsequently, I will live the rest of my life as a hunchback!

  1. As an orthopedic surgeon, I can confirm that putting all your weight on one leg is bad for not only your posture but also your knee and hip joints, sometimes causing premature arthritis.

  2. Actually, it will hurt your posture but not quite as badly as you just described. It’s also reversible, but only with significant strength exercise. There are reasons to have good posture other than aesthetics, but you will not have a hunchback.
