When People Give You Hope

I asked someone something and they tried to warn me off it, then told me to think about it. When I came back the next day, I said I still wanted to do it, and they said no. Why couldn’t you just say no right away, instead of letting me think that there was a chance and that you would let me if I knew what I was in for?
