People Who Assume That if You Have Any Sense of Style You Must Be Copying Lady Gaga and Yell Her Name out at You
This is a huge problem for me! Ever since Lady Gaga became famous, every single person I know who dresses up or dresses “different” in any way (read: doesn’t wear jeans and hoodies) has been constantly harassed by her legions of fans who assume we are imitating her! For some reason, they are moved to scream her name at us all day long. I have even been physically assaulted by teenage girls yelling her name. This is excruciatingly frustrating for me—I have been bleaching my hair white for ten years and collecting/working in vintage (pre-1950) and antique clothing for twelve years! This is who I am—I am not copying some pop singer. Even my male friends who dress “weird” get called her name! There were always people who dressed up differently—why do her fans think she invented that?! I have nothing against the woman herself, just her fans—leave me alone! Stop assuming that every “weird” person you see is an imitator. It was much better when people stuck to telling me “It’s not Halloween” twelve times a day.
