Things That I Hate

I really hate religion. I am all in favor of love and forgiveness and so on. I find it hard to believe that people in this day and age take stories in the Bible as fact. In my opinion the Bible was written as an allegory and should not be taken literally. People also tend to pick and choose things in the Bible they wish to follow. The people that vote against gay marriage because their bible tells them too are the same people that have illegitimate children or commit adultery and other “sins” such as pride, envy, gluttony and so on.

I in no way pretending to be any kind of Christian, Catholic, Muslim, Jew, etc. I just hate how people wear their religion like a badge of honour earned for morality. You wouldn’t say you climbed Mount Everest if you read half a book about it and flew over it in a plane.

I also find it disgusting that people refer to perceptions of science and our place in the universe based on interpretations of people that lived thousands of years ago. I admit that our technology has not come far enough to determine exactly how we and the universe came to be, but that doesn't justify disregarding years and years of scientific discovery in place of an “opiumish” fairy tale-like story from men and women that lived thousands of years ago and probably rarely, if ever, ventured more than one hundred miles from their place of birth.

  1. Hating people for their religion is ignorant, whether you're christian, agnostic, jewish, or atheist. If you blindly hate religion, you're just as dumb as religious people who hate atheists. When can there be mutual respect?

  2. "Animals don't have souls or emotions" Yeah tell that to your dog, that is, after he is done showering you with love when you come home.

"Humans aren't animals and don't have instincts" I'm sorry, then I don't quite understand how it is that we know how to eat, move, climb trees, drink water when we see it, know a bad smell from a good one, jerk our foot up when we step on something, crave attention and approval from our superiors, unconciously organize our families and friends into social hierarchys, find the very natural enviornment we are designed for so beautiful (grass and trees and rivers and such), pick our noses even as babies, have a strange knack for using a knife, and many other things. Humans don't have instincts, yeah, uh-huh, sure. We just happen to find very specific and important features on the opposite sex attractive for no particular reason. Weird.

  3. I disagree w/ some things in here...and although i'm Catholic-ish, i don't like religion either, but for different reasons...there wouldn't be so many wars, deaths or discrimation if religion was never founded or made...
