Things That I Hate

Having OCD

Shoot, I stepped on a crack, gotta step on another one of the exact same size and type in the exact same spot with my other foot. Scratching my right ear, gotta scratch my left one too. Can’t stop washing my hands! Must push all four arrow keys the same number of times. The papers must be perfectly aligned, even if it means tapping them a hundred times. I’ll count. Now I have to make that speck of dust pass through the exact center of my vision several times, back and forth, very quickly blinking at the exact moment it passes through the center. Dang! Missed. Dang! Missed. Dang! Missed. Dang! Didn’t time the blink right. Have to start over.

  1. And I thought MY OCD was bad. All I do is organize anything with multiple colours in rainbow order, wear symmetrical clothing and jewellery, and chew the same number of times on both sides of my mouth. You, my friend, have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

  2. I totally understand you. I have severe OCD, too. I have to get up in the middle of the night and walk to the kitchen just to check the time on the microwave clock. Also, I have to look at the clock to where I can see the edge of the table, which means basically getting out of bed (all night). Also, I have to make sure the number on the clock is okay with me before I can rest. Numbers ending in 19 are okay. 27? Unacceptable. Also, I have to look at the clock several times, and I keep putting my hand over my face so I can't see it then look at it again. I usually can't even sleep at night due to my OCD. OCD sucks.

  3. As has been the case with the previous commenters, I, too, have OCD. It is without a doubt the most puzzling aspect of my life as it makes no sense but is impossible to avoid. Believe me, I know what you’re talking about. It’s so frustrating to repeat simple tasks that would otherwise have taken 5 seconds. Stay strong, though, because there seem to be ways to beat OCD. By the way, it’s sort of nice to see someone else who knows how it feels.
