Things That I Hate

Assumptions and Social Interactions

Are you a girl with a shaved head, short hair, or some other sort of not-so-common hairstyle that is apparently “uncharacteristic of the female gender”? From behind are you often accidentally called “sir”, and then when you turn around are greeted by a surprised and/or embarrassed person who didn’t think you were a girl… or are still unsure at that point? Yeah. This happens to me all the time. I have really short hair. In fact, I pretty much just shaved it off one day, and apparently unless I’m wearing a tank top or some other boob-showing-off kind of shirt, I’m automatically mistaken to be male, and when they finally realize I’m not, that must mean that I’m a lesbian, right? Wrong.

I have no issues with lesbians or males or anyone really. In fact, I love androgynous people.

I really have an issue with the amount of assuming that goes on, and then being accused of something I’m not, regardless of what that thing is. It’s just like if someone I met assumed I was a fan of say, some unpopular sports team, even though I am not. Especially when said people are totally sold on the idea, and have known you for a total of three seconds.
