Things That I Hate

Money

I don’t get why money is so important. You probably think I’m a nutjob but it’s true. Why do we need money? Why don’t we just trade like they do in India? I mean, there are hundreds of people in our country that don’t have a lot of money but do have some other stuff. I mean, I don’t know much, because I’m only eleven years old, but that’s bothered me since I learned about money. And I have a lot of money, so you’re probably wondering why it matters to me. But it does. So please tell me why money is important.

  1. Learn some history, especially money’s history. Money was invented because trade is very impractical for big commercial exchanges. Besides, you can carry a lot of money with you to buy things here and there. How would you carry a lot of heavy stuff? And what if the thing you want belongs to someone who doesn’t want what you have to offer? How would you get something from a far away place without traveling? I can buy things from other countries with a credit card. Trade is usually done by poor people, who can’t get money for some reason. They do have money in India. Money is not the problem, the problem is the distribution of wealth.

  2. I remember when I was your age and felt the same way. I asked my parents why there was money and why we didn’t just trade with each other. My mom laughed at me and my dad just called me a communist.
