Websites Requiring New Passwords Every Few Months

I realize we now live in a society that is governed by the username and password, but why must websites make it so hard? I understand that requiring a special character, two numbers, and a minimum length makes our accounts more secure. However, being forced to come up with something new every few month for every website makes my account so secure I cannot even access it.
