When Adults Think You’ll Break Everything You Touch
I’m 14 and my parents still tell me “don’t touch!†when we walk around glass items. And recently I was at a family party and there was a pool table with a tarp over it. My cousin (who is nine) took off the tarp and began sinking the balls. I thought I’d give it a try as well and we were having fun when someone came down and told us to stop because we’d break it. I was mad because both of us are extremely mature and we weren’t doing any harm. About an hour later all of the adults went down to play pool, while letting the youngest of all of my cousins (age 7) play. So I can’t play, because I’ll break your precious pool table, but a seven year old can? While he is scraping the felt bottom? Sorry to offend any adults, but I hate it when you think that just because I am a teenager, I want to break everything that you own!

To be fair, I don’t think they think you want to break everything, just that younger people are often (perhaps stereotypically) prone to accidentally breaking things, and since your parents are the ones who will be responsible for paying for any damage you may cause, they’re likely to be overly cautious.
