When people could be researching about something important like cancer and whatnot, there are people doing scientific research about earphones getting tangled in your pocket. What is that going to achieve? How utterly pathetic.

I understand your intentions but your text implies that all researchers have expertise in fields that are most important to the world. Often these trivial research projects are started by college/university students to practise their methods so they can focus on more important things after they graduate or leave.
