Things That I Hate

No Freedom of Religion

At my school, they won’t let me pray because they’re worried it’ll hurt people’s feelings. That’s totally ridiculous. When I see a person with a different religion than my own, and they pray, I don’t get offended. One day I prayed before I ate my lunch, and I got detention because a teacher saw me praying and thought it was “inappropriate conduct”. My parents had to talk to the principal, and they asked why I had been punished for praying at school but my Muslim classmate had not. The principal couldn’t give a straight answer. Later I got in trouble for praying before a test, and my school gave me suspension for a week. I think it is ridiculous that I am not free to practice my religion.

  1. It seems that the title of your essay is misleading.
