Things That I Hate

Vanity

I hate how I am possessed to look in the mirror every five minutes. I hate how I am always thinking about my hair or lip gloss. I hate how modern society requires every girl to be smothered in makeup and orange goo to be publicly accepted. My so-called friends ignore me unless I am covered in fake tan-spray. I see eight year olds who are starting to question their inner beauty based on how pretty they are. What happened to us? Why is everyone so obsessed with looks? Is there any place on Earth where people accept you for you?

  1. It's important for everyone—regardless of gender—to take care of themselves physically—in terms of exercise, basic grooming, cleanliness and dress—but your appearance should not define who you are. The fact is, people often do judge each other by appearance, but if, after knowing them for a while, that's all they continue to judge you by, they aren't people you should want as friends. Find people who like you for who you are—they're out there. You deserve friends who you truly value. Maintain a well-groomed appearance, but don't let it take over your life. Ignore anyone who says otherwise.

  2. That place is ANYWHERE BUT AMERICA, or France. I agree with Jonathan, except for the grooming part, screw grooming, it's tedious and serves no purpose, I wake up and I'm ready to go.

  3. Disneyland! But yea I actually don't ever wear make-up and I don't wear tan spray and I'm pale white and I have good friends. fitting in with society is just something that we don't need to do.

  4. No there isn't. People will always be like that. That's how we evolved. I'm from Europe. We are equally obsessed. I don't go with the flow. I'm me and you can't do shit about to change that.
