Google Maps for iPod Touch Why do they even have it on there? You need WiFi if you want to search for directions, so it makes no sense having it on the iPod. Idiots.

You use it on WiFi, obviously. Most large cities have WiFi access along sidewalks.
Or load it up before you leave and go through all of the destinations, it usually will save the map afterwards while you're driving
